CNN’s chief data analyst, Harry Enten, recently shared Donald Trump’s “eye-popping” low approval ratings and suggested there could be no way to resuscitate his image at this point.

“We are talking as low as Death Valley,” Enten said of Trump’s ratings.

He said it’s also key to point out that it is not any one specific event bringing down Trump’s numbers. “It’s a slew of events that have come together and have continuously dropped his net approval rating.”

“It is sped up now, but this has been a steady fall into the abyss,” Enten emphasized. “There is no bottom.”

Enten said Trump was at plus six points when he was sworn in for his second term. A year ago, he had already dropped to minus three. Nine months ago, he was at minus 7, and in October 2025, he was at minus 10.

Now, he has reached minus 18 points, a term-two low.

“What is so key to point out here is,” Enten said, “let’s just say that somehow we got out of the Iran war tomorrow, we might climb a little bit, but we have seen this steady… and dropping number that just seems no sign of rising.”

When it comes to independents, Enten said the drop in support is “eye-popping.”

“Donald Trump now has the worst net approval rating among independents of any president ever at this point in term two,” Enten said, adding that Trump is almost 10 points down from where Richard Nixon was at this point in term two.

And at that, Enten had just three words: “My goodness gracious.”
