Elon Musk had some choice words for out Secretary of the Treasury Scott Bessent after Bessent pointed out that Musk isn’t popular.
“The principles of DOGE were very popular. I think if you looked at the polling, Elon was not,” Bessent said on CNN. He may have been referring to polls like an April AP-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research poll that found that only 33% of Americans had a favorable view of Musk after he ripped through the federal government and froze spending that had been appropriated by Congress.

Bessent gave transphobic billionaire Elon Musk access to one of the most sensitive – and important – computer systems in the federal government.
Bessent then said that Musk’s recent announcement of a new political party that is neither “red” nor “blue” wasn’t liked by the “boards of directors at his various companies” and that he should get out of politics and “focus on his business activities.”

One person on X shared the video and wrote that Bessent “was an executive for George Soros for over a decade.” She was referring to how, in the 1990s, Bessent worked for Soros Fund Management, an investment management firm chaired by Jewish philanthropist George Soros, whose name is often invoked in rightwing conspiracy theories.
Musk responded to the X user: “Bessent is a Soros stooge. And he’s a political science major who can’t even do math.”
“The polling for me was very positive a year ago, which is why Trump used me so much,” he claimed.

Musk and Bessent haven’t had a great working relationship. In early June, Trump advisor Steve Bannon said that Musk shoved Bessent in the White House after Bessent complained that Musk hadn’t frozen enough federal spending.
“And that’s when Elon got physical. It’s a sore subject with him,” Bannon alleged. “It wasn’t an argument, it was a physical confrontation. Elon basically shoved him.”
“I don’t think Bessent has any bad blοod, but he’s got a job to do and he’s going to do it.”
