Earlier this week, out MSNBC host Rachel Maddow called out three major attacks on democracy currently being perpetrated by the presidential administration.

These attacks include Donald Trump’s demand that Texas (and several other states) redraw its congressional map to gerrymander several additional Republican seats, establishing a “pretext” to deny the results of the 2026 election by saying that the Census “shouldn’t count,” and ending mail-in voting. That last idea, Maddow stressed, Trump got from Russian dictator Vladimir Putin.

“Now I would caution you, as always, to watch what he actually does here and not just what he says he is going to do, but if Trump is essentially taking tactical advice from the Russian dictator Vladimir Putin about how to hold something that looks like an election but isn’t actually an election,” Maddow said, “this is a little bit on the nose.”

International election monitors have roundly acknowledged that the outcomes of Russia’s elections are falsified, anti-democratic, and do not reflect the actual wills of Russian voters.
