First, he brought up Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth’s decision to bar photographers from covering his press briefings.
“The Pentagon banned photographers this week for the briefings because Pete Hegseth said some of the pictures of him looked unflattering,” Maher told his audience. “Pete wants you to know two things about our military: This is the new alpha male, very masculine, non-woke military. Second, Maher cited the recent flurry of physical changes to the White House: “A lot of redecorating.”
Third, he noted that Trump has been buying dress shoes for all the men in his Cabinet.
“Trump has a new thing – I’m not making this up – guessing other men’s shoe size,” Maher said. “Am I making this sh*t up? I’m not. He looks at other men and guesses their shoe size and then sends them a pair… The entire Cabinet is wearing shoes he got them, including [Secretary of State] Marco Rubio, where they didn’t fit, so he’s in clown shoes.”
The Wall Street Journal and other publications reported this month that Trump has been giving $145 pairs of Florsheim Leather Oxfords to agency heads, lawmakers, and White House advisors, and the recipients have been wearing them whether they fit or not, so he won’t be offended.
“I don’t want my Cabinet members wearing sneakers,” Trump told interviewer Brian Kilmeade on FoxNewsTalk.com. “So I’ll get them a pair of shoes. It’s a gift from Donald Trump.”
Is Maher implying that Trump takes an abnormal interest in other men’s physical attributes?
“I’m just saying,” Maher said, “it’s a little weird for a man to look at other men and go: What you got down there, nine and a half?”
