During a recent interview, genderqueer singer King Princess had a strong message for anti-trans Harry Potter author JK Rowling: “F**k you, b*tch.”

The music artist grew up a massive Harry Potter fan and told the Irish Times she won’t let the author’s views ruin the story.

“You know what the irony is? She wrote eight books about children having autonomy and the ability to make their own choices,” she said, “which is possibly the most trans thing I’ve ever heard,” adding that she should have just kept her views to herself.

“She could have had these books go down as some of the greatest young-adult writing in the world – all she had to do was shut the f**k up.”

King Princess, whose name is Mikaela Mullaney Straus, also said she thinks the majority of Potter superfans are queer “because it’s a queer story.”

“It’s about choice and difference and finding your community and chosen family. These are all very queer themes.”

She called Rowling a “demon of a woman” and accused her of “spitting in the space of [her] fandom.”

“That being said, I still love Harry Potter,” she said.

The singer’s comments speak to a broader debate that has taken place around the book series since Rowling’s viciously anti-trans views came to light. Many have wondered whether the art and the artist can be separated, whether they can remain fans of the books they grew up with but still maintain their values.

King Princess seems to think you can. She even threw a Harry Potter-themed party for her last birthday.

Rowling has emerged as one of the world’s most prominent anti-trans bullies. She has used her vast wealth, mostly accumulated through the success of her Harry Potter franchise and its many multimedia spinoffs, to personally fund legal cases aimed at diminishing rights and protections for transgender women in the U.K. and Ireland.

The author has made a habit of denying that trans women exist and regularly posting cruel anti-trans messages on social media.
