Out Olympic gold medalist Greg Louganis is leaving the U.S. for Panama, he shared last weekend. He sold three of his five Olympic diving medals to help finance the move.
“I told the truth; I needed the money,” Louganis posted to Facebook Friday, after the three medals — a silver from Montreal, a gold from Los Angeles, and another gold from Seoul — earned a whopping $430,865 at auction in July, far above estimates.

Louganis is widely considered the best American diver in history. He came out in 1994 and revealed he was HIV positive in 1995.
“While many people may have built businesses and sold them for a profit, I had my medals, which I am grateful for,” Louganis said in the post detailing his move abroad.

“If I had proper management, I might not have been in that position, but what is done is done; live and learn,” he said.
