Gavin Newsom slams rightwing outrage over Bad Bunny with just one picture

An X account associated with California Gov. Gavin Newsom’s (D) office posted a picture of JD Vance in drag in response to the right’s negative reaction to musician Bad Bunny’s upcoming performance at the Super Bowl.

Conservatives have been outraged this week ever since the Puerto Rican reggaeton artist was announced as the halftime show performer for the 2026 Super Bowl. They say they’re mad because Bad Bunny has criticized ICE, performs in Spanish, and has crossdressed on numerous occasions. Some on the right have gone to far as to say that Bad Bunny “promotes demonic activity.”

But, like many on the right, so has Vance.

“I’m boycotting the Super Bowl because Bad Bunny dressed in drag,” Newsom’s account said, using alternating capital and lowercase letters to show sarcasm.

The picture in question was released by Vance’s classmates at Yale Law School during the 2024 campaign.

“It’s from a group chat of Vance’s fellow classmates and is from a friend of a friend,” Yale pediatrics professor Travis Whitfill said at the time. “I believe it was grabbed from Facebook and was taken at a Halloween party.”
