Mary Trump, a clinical psychologist and the president’s niece, is now accusing her uncle of treason.
Mary Trump posted on her Substack yesterday about the administration’s decision to remove sanctions on Iranian oil just weeks after going to war with the West Asian nation.

Iran shut down the Strait of Hormuz, a narrow waterway through which 20% of the world’s oil supply passes, in response to the attacks from the U.S. and Israel. This caused oil and gas prices to skyrocket, and now Donald Trump is desperate to lower them ahead of the 2026 midterms.
Lifting sanctions on Iran would presumably cause the nation to sell more oil and lower its price, but it would also help the Iranian state earn more money.

Mary Trump said that these funds could be used to attack American servicemembers, and she called the move “tortured, corrupt, and upside down.”
She said that her uncle “had no idea what was going to happen after he launched his illegal, unconstitutional war,” even though she believes it was “patently obvious” that Iran would stop all traffic through the Strait of Hormuz in retaliation for the attacks.
“He had no idea because, despite the fact that he knows nothing, he thinks he knows everything,” she wrote.
She noted that the price of crude oil has almost doubled over the past three weeks and said that this higher price means Iran will make even more money from it when the sanctions are lifted.
“How else, other than giving our enemy aid and comfort, are we to define Donald’s actions?” Mary Trump wrote after quoting the Constitution’s definition of treason. “He is creating the conditions in which it’s possible for the country against whom he started a war to fight more effectively against us, thereby endangering our service members, thousands more of whom are on their way to the Middle East to fight his misguided and corrupt war of choice.”
“Donald Trump is, in the starkest possible terms, making it easier for a country with whom we are at war to kill Americans.”
