From Gemma Collins’ “I’m claustrophobic Darren!” to Jessie Wallace’s delivery of Kat Slater’s infamous “… YES I AM!” quote, the huns of Britain know how to make a defining TV moment – and a meme.

Now, with hun-dreds of such TV moments to choose from, delivered by a plethora of small-time gay icons, the voting British public have declared who they believe to be the biggest hun in TV history. And no, it’s not Natalie Cassidy.

Research conducted by Sky Bingo has uncovered that Brits believe The Great British Bake Off and This Morning host Alison Hammond to be the ultimate telly hun, securing a staggering amount of the vote – 23 per cent.

In fairness, her future as a famed telly icon was secured the moment she broke that table in Big Brother, way back in 2002.

Playing Connect 4 with Beyoncé and knocking a sexy shirtless sailor into a river have certainly helped cement that status in the years since.

In second place, with 17 per cent of the vote, is the woman behind one of the most notorious catchphrases in the UK: “Get outta my pub!”

It’s a statement so famous that even Katy Perry has recited it, and it’s all down to the cockney squawk of the late Dame Barbara Windsor and her EastEnders character, Peggy Mitchell.

In third place is The Vicar of Dibley actress Dawn French, who managed to secure 12 per cent of the vote. While she’s about to appear in new BBC sitcom Can You Keep a Secret? she undeniably scored a legion of gay fans with her Jennifer Saunders collaboration, the sketch show French and Saunders.

Four famous stars secured nine per cent of the vote, including Anita Dobson, best known for playing historic landlady Angie Watts on EastEnders, Gavin and Stacy’s Alison Steadman, Loose Women co-host Stacey Solomon, and the aforementioned, Only Way Is Essex star, the GC herself. Gemma Collins.

Given the fact that Gemma Collins has littered social media with memes since the early 2010s – “I don’t wanna play any more games!”; “Where is she? Up to mischief I bet”; “Right…” – it’s a surprise she wasn’t in the top three at least.

Steadman’s Gavin and Stacy co-star Ruth Jones, Coronation Street’s Alison King, and Emmerdale actress Claire King round off the top ten.

There are a fair few surprise omissions, including late Celebrity Big Brother star Kim Woodburn, Loose Women’s Denise Welch, cruise ship aficionado Jane McDonald, and EastEnders legend Natalie Cassidy, but that’s the unpredictability of democracy. Cassidy has given her blessing to queen of the hundom Alison Hammond though, telling Sky Bingo: “I think the British public voting Alison Hammond as the ‘ultimate TV Hun’, is absolutely bang on. I don’t think anyone can beat her.”

For those who did the right thing and binned off social media at some point in the mid 2010s, a “Hun” is a famous or famous-for-five-minutes person – usually a woman, sometimes a parrot (“Chaneeeeel!”) who provides camp, viral moments that are beloved by the LGBTQ+ community.

As evidenced by this list, the bulk of them are British, soap stars, reality TV contestants or singers, and they offer an ironic sense of British pride through their uniquely British and often fierce, fiery humour.
