The New York subway system is about to get a little more fun — a little more queer.

Earlier this week, the city’s Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) posted a clip on its official Instagram account showing bisexual rapper and native New Yorker Cardi B recording PSAs set to play over loudspeakers in some of the agency’s stations.

“Hey, New York! It’s Cardi B. I’m here at the MTA recording some PSAs you’ll be hearing in the subway stations,” the Grammy winner says in the video montage.

Some of the messages straphangers will soon be hearing from the “Bodak Yellow” artist include reminders to pay subway fares —and to “keep it real” — and warnings against subway surfing.

“We’re walking here! Steps are for stepping, not for sitting. Move it, bucko!” Cardi says in one PSA.

“Ride safe, keep it cute, and keep it moving, okurrr!” she advises in another.

Several commenters on the post already reported hearing the messages in stations around the city.

While most seemed delighted by the prospect of hearing Cardi B’s voice on their daily commute, several commenters criticized the MTA, which is set to increase fares in January, for using funds for a celebrity PSA. But according to amNewYork, transit officials confirmed that “there was no money involved” in what they describe as the “partnership” with Cardi B.

More likely, the campaign is part of the rapper’s recent New York-centric publicity blitz promoting her new album, Am I the Drama? As People notes, she recently took to the city’s streets to personally sell copies of the album.

The “WAP” rapper — who once posted on social media that if you’re homophobic, “you just ugly” — is also set to play the 2025 Global Citizen Festival in New York’s Central Park on September 27, alongside Shakira, Tyla, and others. The annual music festival promotes activism against extreme poverty worldwide.
