Lesbian Rep. Becca Balint (D-VT) called out “proud transphobe” Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC) for making an antisemitic joke on social media.

Balint was referring to Mace’s reaction to a bizarre moment on the House floor yesterday, where Mace started screaming uncontrollably after LGBTQ+ ally Rep. Sara Jacobs (D-CA) pointed out that many cis people – including people in the House of Representatives – have gotten gender-affirming care.

“Many people in this body have received gender-affirming care,” Jacobs said. “Filler is gender-affirming care.”

“Botox is gender-affirming care. Lots of my colleagues have received gender-affirming care.”

“Let me be clear: I think everyone should have access to the gender-affirming care that they need, and I think we should respect everybody in this country.”

Mace could be heard screaming, “Ridiculous! You’re absolutely ridiculous!” before her mic was cut and the chair called for order. She kept on screaming, even without a mic to make what she was saying comprehensible.

On social media, Mace claimed that Jacobs was mocking her for being a sexual violence survivor, which Jacobs didn’t mention at all in her short speech.

“I talk about women’s safety and your response is commentary about my body on the House floor,” Mace wrote. Jacobs did not say anything about Mace having had work done in her speech yesterday. She spoke about members of the House generally having had several different kinds of procedures.

“If you knew anything about survivors you would know some women change their bodies because of the trauma of sexual violence. They live with the consequences for a lifetime,” Mace continued. Jacobs’ message was that everyone should be allowed to change their bodies and that it’s not a bad thing, it’s something that both cis and trans people do.

Then Mace made a joke about Jacobs’ nose. Jacobs is Jewish.

“PS – I have a good surgeon if you ever want to get your nose done,” Mace wrote.

“You have an antisemitism problem, @HouseGOP,” Balint wrote, highlighting Mace’s joke about Jacobs’ nose. Balint is also Jewish.
