Anti-trans billionaire Elon Musk says that he has figured out why trans people exist, and, unsurprisingly, it doesn’t explain anything.
According to Musk, the “major driver” of white trans women existing is “the relentless propaganda portraying white men as the worst human beings.”

“If those lies land, especially during vulnerable teen years, and they are given an option to be a ‘celebrated’ group, some will do it,” he claimed.

His theory has a few issues, though. First, he appears to believe that trans women are universally “celebrated,” at least more than cis men are, which would not explain why anti-trans attitudes are so prevalent.
Also, it’s not clear why trans people who aren’t white trans women would exist if his theory were true.
His theory also contradicts that of another well-known transphobe, J.K. Rowling, who famously wrote an essay where she said that trans men transition in order to escape misogyny.
“The more of [trans men’s] accounts of gender dysphoria I’ve read, with their insightful descriptions of anxiety, dissociation, eating disorders, self-harm, and self-hatred, the more I’ve wondered whether, if I’d been born 30 years later, I too might have tried to transition,” Rowling wrote in 2023. “The allure of escaping womanhood would have been huge.
