As the right continues to melt down over California Gov. Gavin Newsom’s (D) week of mocking Donald Trump on social media, it seems Democratic voters are all in.
Newsom has been trolling Trump on the X account “Governor Newsom Press Office” by posting messages in Trump’s style as a way to mock the president. For example, the account has been posting messages in all-caps with boastful messages that make little sense. Fox commentators continue to complain about Newsom’s lack of character and professionalism, seemingly unaware of the irony.

But CNN analyst Harry Enten says the strategy is working and has resulted in a whopping 40-point rise in California voters who want to see him run for president – from 35% in 2023 to 75% today.
“My goodness gracious,” Enten said, referencing “a rising tide of support for Gavin Newsom.”

Enten said the polling is significant despite the election being over three years away.
“It’s one of those benchmarks, the home-state polling for presidential candidates. If they can’t win the primary in their home state, they ain’t going to win anywhere,” Enten wrote.
“So, yes, winning California is not tantamount to winning the nomination, but it is one of those stepping stones that you have to make it to if you, in fact, want to win the nomination historically, and, of course, in California, it has the most delegates out of any of the states that, of course, take part in the Democratic primary,” he added.
Enten said Newsom’s numbers have also risen nationally, from 11% of Democratic voters who wanted him to run for president on June 1 to 27% now.
