Anti-LGBTQ+ Rep. Tim Burchett (R-TN) said that he’s working to drag Netflix executives in front of Congress for broadcasting a transgender-inclusive children’s cartoon that was cancelled three years ago.

During Burchett’s recent conversation with anti-LGBTQ+ right-wing broadcaster Benny Johnson, Johnson falsely accused Netflix of showing kids “pornography,” “propaganda,” and “indoctrination,” and asked Burchett if he would pursue a congressional hearing with Netflix executives. Burchett promised that he would, then he blamed “the Chinese” and the “devil” for encouraging kids to be trans.

“I said the Chinese and the devil are working hand in hand. I’m not sure which is which. But that is exactly what is going on. The demonic thing is a power of suggestion,” Burchett said. “We can’t allow it. It is indoctrination and it needs to stop.” Burchett has previously published anti-trans social media messages and voted against The Equality Act, federal legislation that would include sexual orientation and gender identity into existing civil rights laws.

Johnson is a conservative YouTuber with 2.59 million followers who has called affirmative action “Nazi-level thinking.” He served as the chief creative officer for the anti-LGBTQ+ young conservative group Turning Point USA and allegedly was part of a Russian government-funded media company established to push Russian propaganda and disinformation to American audiences.

Johnson has pushed the right-wing lie that “the trans movement is radicalizing the mentally ill into becoming violent terrorists who target children for murder.” In reality, the vast majority of school shootings are committed by cisgender men.
