Sarah McBride slams Lauren Boebert for trying to blame Democrats for shutdown

Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO) was outraged that her colleague, out transgender Rep. Sarah McBride (D-DE), mocked Republicans for leaving D.C. on the eve of the federal shutdown, so she took to social media to throw insults at her.

McBride responded by bringing up one of Boebert’s more… ignominious moments.

Earlier this week, McBride posted a video to social media where she looked around the Capitol for her Republican colleagues. The government was about to shut down after the Senate had rejected continuing resolutions from both Republicans and Democrats, while Republicans refused to negotiate with Democrats. McBride was trying to highlight how, in her judgment, Congressional Republicans were not attempting to reach an agreement to keep the government open.

This apparently set Boebert off, who responded by misgendering McBride.

“So says the king of spins,” Boebert posted to X, responding to McBride. “Y’all voted to SHUT DOWN the government last week.”

“Nice try, bro.”

McBride responded by reminding Boebert that she tried to be Congress’s bathroom police earlier this year and failed at the task.

“The last time you came for me you ended up harassing my colleague in the women’s restroom because you thought she was me,” McBride wrote.

“Maybe sit this one out.”

McBride was referring to an incident from this past January where Boebert started shouting “You shouldn’t be here” to a woman in the bathroom. That woman’s identity is not known, but she was not McBride.

Boebert then went and got “proud transphobe” Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC) to go confront the woman with her, and they reportedly “stormed in” to the restroom only to come out seconds later when they realized the woman wasn’t McBride.

“I made an error regarding a mistaken identity,” Boebert later said in a statement. “I apologized, learned a lesson, and it won’t happen again.”

Republicans currently control the House of Representatives, Senate, and White House, but both parties are blaming the other for the shutdown. The president, though, appears content with the shutdown and, instead of trying to negotiate a bill to keep the government open with congressional leaders, has taken to posting videos of them to the internet with sombreros and AI-generated voices to mock and insult them, perhaps to thwart attempts to reach an agreement.
